M/Sgt Samuel McLaren, 4916 So. MacDill St., Tampa, Florida., presents a more comfortable crutch to one-legged Taskiko Takaesa of Tobarue Okinawa. The Sergeant, a member of the 307th Bomb Wing stationed on the island, discovered the little girl's plight while making a tour of the village. He and other airmen of the 307th sheet metal shop made the stainless steel crutch during spare hours. The child lost her leg during a World War II bombing raid which also cost the life of her mother.
