    Description

    1800s-1900 tribal archery set of
Indonesia / southern most Philippines. The Bow, 20 arrows and quiver are made of bamboo. The bow is bound at intervals with finely woven cane rattan and where we would normally use a string of some sort this 60 inch long bow uses a long strip of bamboo. And it actually works. The arrows about 30-31 inches long and are tipped with iron or low grade steel tips from about 2 inches to 5 inches long. The arrow quiver is made of a larger piece of bamboo, with a bamboo handle, a finely woven cane rattan cover or cap at 21 inches long with a monkey knot type handle on top   and a bamboo spike so the shooter can stick the full quiver of arrows in nearby ground. The woven cap has been treated with blood as a preservative. It was also common for the maker to treat the bow with palm oils. I have a friend who is most knowledgeable concerning African and Amazon weapons and he examined this set. He was just about drooling over it and he might just buy it sometime in July but I thought I could offer it to the ebay community until he makes up his mind although he has always come through in all our dealings in past years. Please don't be surprised if I remove this listing in a month or so because I have a network of certain collectors who don't even let many of my finds get to any online listing.  Ask yourself where are you going to see another one of these up for sale. Thanks for looking.
